Chapter One

From Bullied to Bold

Overcoming Childhood Challenges

How a young boy — the smallest, most overlooked kid in his class — transformed the pain of adversity into a superpower of empathy, resilience, and relentless determination.

When you first meet me, you'll see a confident real estate agent with a long track record of success, a dedicated husband and the most loving and supportive of wives, and a dedicated father to the most joyful and loving of girls. But the journey that brought me here wasn't always smooth. My early years were filled with challenges that shaped me into the person I am today.

I want to share this part of my story with you because I believe it's crucial to understand how I approach my work and why I'm so passionate about helping you achieve your real estate dreams.

I was born in Philadelphia, the youngest of five children. My parents, Kathleen and Emile, came from humble beginnings, but their story of love and perseverance deserves its own chapter. For now, let's focus on my childhood and the experiences that forged my character.

Growing up, I was always the smallest kid in my class. But it wasn't just my size that set me apart. As the son of a Filipino father, my ethnicity made me stand out amongst my peers. This difference became the target of bullies who saw me as an outsider.

The Crucible of Bullying

I remember one particularly harsh incident in sixth grade. A group of older kids cornered me in a small cubby area. They took off their shoes and beat me with them, yelling, "This is for what you did to us in Vietnam." The irony, of course, is that I'm not even Vietnamese. But to them, it didn't matter. I was different, and that was enough.

Another time, these bullies put me on top of a vent fan, about ten feet off the ground. They made me take off my shoes and ordered me to sing the Star-Spangled Banner before jumping down onto their school bags. And I did it. Not because I wanted to, but because I was small, scared, and didn't see any other choice.

These experiences were painful, both physically and emotionally. But here's what I want you to understand: they didn't break me. Instead, they lit a fire within me. A determination to prove everyone wrong, to show the world that I could be something, that I mattered.

These experiences were painful, both physically and emotionally. But here's what I want you to understand: they didn't break me. Instead, they lit a fire within me.

Turning Pain into Purpose

This determination became a driving force in my life. It pushed me to work harder, to be more resilient, and to never give up on my dreams. When faced with challenges, I learned to push through, find creative solutions, and keep moving forward no matter what.

But it wasn't just about proving others wrong. It was about proving something to myself. Those experiences taught me the importance of empathy, of understanding that everyone has their own struggles and stories. I learned to look beyond the surface and see the potential in people and situations that others might overlook.

The Seeds of Entrepreneurship

Believe it or not, those challenging years also planted the seeds of my future career. While I didn't have any professional sales experience when I entered real estate, I did have a unique childhood experience that prepared me more than I realized at the time.

As a kid, I was part of the Olympic Sales Club. Picture this: a small, admittedly cute kid walking around the neighborhood with cards and gift wrap, knocking on doors. I even had a special strategy for the 84-year-old lady down the street. I'd pick flowers from her own bushes, knock on her door, and present them to her before making my sales pitch. It worked every time.

This early experience taught me valuable lessons about building relationships and the power of a personal touch. It showed me that success often comes from thinking outside the box and finding unique ways to connect with people.

The Superhero Within

As a kid who felt powerless in the face of bullies, I often dreamed of being a superhero. My favorites were Spider-Man, "The Thing" from The Fantastic Four, and Superman. Each of these heroes resonated with me for different reasons, and they continue to inspire my approach to real estate today.

Spider-Man taught me about responsibility and using your abilities to help others. The Thing showed me that strength comes in many forms and that a big heart is just as important as physical power. And Superman reminded me that sometimes, the most extraordinary abilities can come from the most unassuming people.

From Bullied to Bold

Looking back at that small, bullied kid, I'm proud of how far I've come. Those challenging early years could have broken me, but instead, they forged me into someone stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate. They gave me a unique perspective that I bring to every client interaction, every negotiation, and every challenge in the real estate world.

When you work with me, you're not just getting a real estate agent. You're getting someone who understands struggle, who knows what it means to be an underdog, and who will fight tirelessly for your interests. You're getting someone who values authenticity, hard work, and unconditional commitment to your goals.

The journey from bullied to bold wasn't easy, but it made me who I am. And who I am is someone dedicated to helping you navigate your own real estate journey with confidence, empathy, and unwavering support. Let's take that first step together.

In the next chapter, we'll explore how my family's legacy of hard work, love, and happiness has shaped my approach to real estate and life.
